Carbonization of briquettes

It is now possible to make fuel briquettes that can be used at home for cooking. It is a known fact that fuel prices are soaring everyday and therefore to save on money, one can even now create fuel briquettes at home. It is possible for you not only to make fuel briquettes at home to serve the purpose of home cooking, but you can also sell the additional ones and make a reasonable income. Creating fuel briquettes at home also offers another advantage and that of producing Eco-friendly renewable source of energy. Also, one cannot forget that making briquettes is a kind of a sustainable business since most of the raw materials that are used are free. Biomass is undoubtedly a renewable source of energy and is also extremely environmental friendly. The increase for the demand of biomass has been on the rise considering the fuel costs are soaring, hence it is a good idea to create briquettes from biomass and use it as a source for fuel.

A briquette for stoves and boilers

A briquette is a chunk of compressed coal dust, charcoal dust, wood chips, sawdust or biomass and is extensively utilized in boilers and stoves. There are smokeless briquettes, which are created from pyrolysed or carbonized materials. Briquettes that are created from materials that are not carbonized tend to be smoky.

Understanding Carbonization

Carbonization is the process through organic substances is converted into carbon in the absence of oxygen and is a process similar to what is followed when lump charcoal is made. Pyrolysis means the thermal-chemical decomposition of organic material under immense pressure that starts from 200 C or can even rise above 450 C in the absence of oxygen. Carbonization is considered to be the extreme of pyrolysis that leaves carbon as the residue.

Making biomass briquettes without carbonization

You can also choose to make biomass briquettes where biomass does not need to undergo carbonization. In order to achieve this, it is important that the green raw materials of the biomass are partially decomposed for at least a minimum of one or two weeks. The material then has to be properly dried before it is completely crushed into extremely small pieces. These pieces have to be made into slurry by mixing water into it and then the mixture is pressed in the Industries Briquetting Machines

Making briquettes from charcoal dust

Fuel briquettes can also be created through the mixing of charcoal dust with binder and then this mixture is added to the briquetting press where it gets compressed. It is not important to carbonize the charcoal dust because the lump charcoal has already been carbonized. There are charcoal fines in every bag of lump charcoals and these originated from breakages of charcoal during handling. From the complete lump charcoal that is generated, the average quantity of these fines range between 10 to 20%. These charcoal fines undoubtedly include a lot of charcoal dust and there are also big ones that can be further pulverized to create fine dust. It is possible to obtain these charcoal fines almost free of cost from different charcoal vendors.
